Saint Anthony of Padua, originally named Fernando Martins de Bulhœs, was born on August 15, 1195, in Lisbon, Portugal, and passed away on June 13, 1231, in Padua, Italy. He is celebrated for his eloquent preaching and profound understanding of scripture as well as his unwavering compassion for the poor and sick. Remarkably, he was canonized less than a year after his death, making him one of the fastest saints to be canonized in history. Furthermore, he was honored as a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius XII on January 16, 1946.
